The next round of the Agri-Silience program was also launched this month. This initiative is designed to enhance financial literacy, develop additional skills and enhance decision-making, building resilience in both individuals and businesses. Graziers and broadacre farmers can register interest here for the new program that will run through 2024-2025.
To help coordinate community events without overlaps, we have introduced an events calendar on our website where livestock-related events can be submitted for approval and listing. This will serve as your central resource for industry events in South Australia.
This month, Livestock SA made submissions to state, national and international processes impacting our members. State submissions were to DEW on proposed amendments to the Climate Change and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Act 2007 (here) and DEM on the draft Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Regulations (here). Nationally, we outlined the impact of the Biosecurity Protection Levy on South Australian livestock producers to the current Senate inquiry (here), and internationally we contributed to the European Commission’s public consultation on the environment tool that will be used by brands to assess the impacts of textile products (here).
The SA Sheep Expo 2024, which is supported by the Sheep Industry Fund, was again a highlight for April and a credit to the organisers and volunteers. This year, Livestock SA ran biosecurity awareness and training sessions. Congratulations to all participants and the winners. It was heartening to see the enthusiastic participation of so many young people, eager to learn about the sheep industry.
We were also a proud supporter of the Rural Support Charity Match on 12 April. This is the second year this great initiative has been held to raise funds to reduce financial hardship through adverse events for South Australian primary producers and small related agribusinesses. Thank you to those who contributed by purchasing tickets and donating to the Rural Business Support Relief Fund.
The 2024 Student Compendium, funded by the Cattle and Sheep Industry Funds, has been launched. This resource aggregates opportunities for students in primary industries and natural resource management, aiding in the discovery of careers, scholarships, graduate programs, and training opportunities. The Compendium is available for download at this link.
