The Chamber Newsletter April 2025

Note from the CEO

Recognising the geo-political landscape that shapes the Australia-UK business community is a big part of how we plan our events. On April 23, we partnered with CT Group to dig into the upcoming Australian Federal election and what it could mean for business. Then on April 28, we’ll be at EY’s offices for The Trump Effect - a timely look at the potential business impact of the US election. I’m pretty sure that presentation’s been updated more than a few times lately!

Meanwhile, Australia House has become the largest polling booth outside Australia for those voting in the May 3 election. You can find more info here. We’re not planning a sausage sizzle outside (tempting though it is), but if you’re nearby, let us know - it's always great to catch up with current and potential members.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve run 35+ events, and there’s plenty more to come. We’re also seeing different member organisations supporting our events, like Multiplex and Qantas, who partnered with us for last week’s Advancing Women in Leadership event. It was a standout session - insightful, engaging, and attended by over 90 people in the Downer Room.

We’d love to see your organisation join us as a partner in future events.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Regards,

Richard

TaxAssist Accountants|Key taxation changes for non-UK domiciled individuals from 6 April 2025

In April 2024, The Chamber, in partnership with TaxAssist Accountants in the UK and Nexia Australia, hosted a webinar and Q&A covering the UK government's proposal to replace the taxation of UK non-domiciled with a residence-based regime.

These changes will have wide ranging implications for many Australians living in the UK.

From 6 April 2025, the current taxation rules for non-UK domiciled individuals changed and the UK switched to a residence-based tax regime for income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax.

Affected Australians living in the UK should consider reviewing their worldwide assets and investments and be aware these changes could impact any relevant offshore structures and global mobility options.
