Note from the CEO

Never have I been more positive about the importance of networking and people connections than I am today. While new technologies are creating remarkable efficiencies and opportunities, they are also reinforcing the importance of people in the equation and as part of the solution.

One of the great benefits of my role is the opportunity to listen to thought leaders across a wide range of industries, and AI regularly enters the discussion. For all the benefits, potential challenges and many unknowns, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: the value of PEOPLE. People with the skills of critical thinking, curiosity, sound judgement, thoughtfulness and patience will become even more important in an AI-enabled world.

One of our special guests at a Young Professionals event last year was Steve Vamos, a highly successful leader of technology companies including Apple, Microsoft, and Xero. His message was simple: the more technology we embrace, the more important people become in leading change, making sound decisions and turning new opportunities into real outcomes.

The hiring of talented people has also been a recurring theme in a number of roundtable discussions I've attended. The proliferation of AI-generated job applications has changed the recruitment landscape, with many senior leaders placing greater value on trusted introductions and referrals through their own professional networks or from people they know.

That is why I believe the role of the Chamber - and our Young Professionals network - will only become more valuable. As technology continues to evolve, genuine relationships, trusted connections and the ability to bring people together will remain one of our greatest strengths.

See you at the next event.

Regards,

Richard Basil-Jones
